These are the same indicators you have seen us and others use on T.V. Quick Release Indicators have proven themselves to be one of the best indicators for fly-fishing stillwaters. Some fly fishers have even used Quick Release Indicators in saltwater for salmon to suspend flies in and around kelp beds! We never hit the water without a comprehensive selection of sizes, styles, and colors.
The Quick Release Indicator utilizes a simple system. The black peg pinches a loop of leader/tippet against the indicator holding it in place. Once you recognize a strike the tension created by raising the rod and the fleeing fish releases the loop allowing the indicator to slide free. The indicator does not interfere with landing the fish in any way. These indicators also work well in rivers and streams.
Choosing the Correct Indicator for Your Needs
Bright colors such as hot orange and hot pink work best when the sun is behind you. Hot yellow and sunburst orange stand out on dull overcast days. Green Quick Release Indicators work in clear waters over spooky waters where stealth is critical.
Smaller indicators are the most sensitive however, using small indicators, either ball or tapered, isn’t always the best choice. When fishing in windy conditions or when using larger heavier flies such as Balanced Leeches larger indicators are needed.
